Below are some of the most asked questions about Upward Sports. Please let us know if you have any additional questions about the league.

Who are the coaches?
We have a strong group of coaches mostly made up of people from Gateway Nazarene Church. We also have some coaches and assistants from the community at large. We know that you will love the coaching staff that will be teaching and interacting with your kids. The Cheerleading program is coached by William Penn University Cheerleaders and Coaches.
What do the uniforms look like?
What age group will my child be in?
There are divisions starting at age 5 (with some 4 year olds with parent request) through 8th grade. Below are the different divisions and grade break downs:
- 1st – 2nd Grade
- 3rd – 4th Grade
- 5th – 6th Grade
If the numbers are large enough we will split out in to boys and girls teams.
How much does registration cost?
Standard registration cost $64.00 which includes the uniform and player/cheerleader kit. You can see the basketball kit details here and the cheerleading kit details here.
Do you offer financial help?
Yes! Don’t let the inability to pay the entry fee keep you from signing your kids up. Our church has generously set aside scholarship money for people who need some help. Note: If a child signs up who has a parent who is deployed overseas there is some funding available as well.
How many kids participate?
For the 2013-2014 basketball season there were 280 boys and girls who participated.
Where are games?
All games are played at Gateway Church of the Nazarene.
When are games?
Games are played on Saturdays, starting at 8 am with the last games ending around 5pm. Of course, if we have a larger turn out of participants this number may increase.
How long are games?
Games last approximately 60 minutes.
Where are practices?
Practices are held at Gateway Church of the Nazarene.
When are practices?
Generally, practices are held starting at 5:30pm with the last practices beginning at 8:30pm. However, this may change depending on the number of participants and the age group sizes. When your child attends one of the scheduled basketball evaluations, you will complete a practice availability form which will indicate which days and times you are able to have practice. Generally, younger participates have practices earlier in the evening, while older children will have a higher likelihood of having practice at one of later times. The cheer squad will practice one night a week and it will start at 6:00 pm.
How long are practices?
Practices last 60 minutes. It is recommended that players arrive early for practice to allow time for the following: change into gym shoes, shorts, and be ready to start practice on time.
Who sponsors Upward Sports?
Upward Sports is the largest faith-based youth sports program in the world, hosted by over 2,600 churches. Gateway Upward is hosted be Gateway Church of the Nazarene.
When does the season start?
Upward Basketball practices begin early January. Games begin mid January with the last game towards the middle of March. The Upward Awards Celebration concludes the season within a couple days of the last game.
A-G: December 11th, 6-7:30 PM
H-O: December 12th, 6-7:30 PM
P-Z and makeup: December 13th, 10AM-12PM
All CHEER Have a clinic on December 13th at 10 AM
